I Watched the Rain

by Deputy Chief Robert R. Devonshire, Jr

“Here is one I put together after having some positive movement forward in my own PTSD fight. Had a good breakthrough last week and it is starting to make better sense to me. Good things!!” ~~ Bob Devonshire

I watched the rain as it fell today,
The dirt and the dust it washed away.
The smell in the air of fresh new start
Settled deep within my heavy heart.

I made sense to me as I watched the rain,
I started to understand what causes the pain.
Memories of events that I do not control
Over the years they have taken their toll.

As the rain cleaned away the dirt and dust
It revealed to me an answer I trust.
The memories that linger and can’t be wiped away
We can choose to accept them and let them stay.

Understanding where they reside
We’ll put them away so we don’t have to hide.
We can wash away the dirt of the past,
The stain will be there but the pain won’t last.

I watched the rain as it fell today,
The dirt and the dust it washed away.
A new beginning is just in sight
I’m stepping forward and taking on this fight.
