Bereavement Uniform Program

Editor’s Note: I STRONGLY this program and encourage all fire departments, especially small and volunteer departments, to link their websites or Facebook pages to the Bereavement Uniform Program. If you have questions, contact Steve Cohen

Greetings from all at the Lighthouse Uniform Company!

I wanted to take a moment and update you on the goings on with the Bereavement Uniform Program, the successor to the Fallen Fire Fighter Dress Uniform Program.

For those following the development of the Bereavement Uniform Program, and more important, for those in a position to make the program available to their people, several milestones were reached this week.

  • the Bereavement Uniform webpage,, has finally been launched. Please take a look. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  • a uniform donation was received from Capt. Mark Delowrey, a retiring Public Health Service (PHS) Captain, who happened to serve on the Surgeon General’s Advisory Committee. Introductions were made and we are waiting for word as to whether the United States Public Health Service is going to become part the effort.
  • the National Volunteer Fire Council has added the Bereavement Uniform Program to its LODD Resource List  putting the program shoulder to shoulder with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, US Fire Administration and the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation, a huge recognition of value.

For a variety of reasons, the decision was made to keep a low profile, the Program doesn’t live on the Lighthouse website, and we are urging people to link the Program to their department website or Facebook page. Access from the department website will make it easy for families to find, it will insure a measure of anonymity for those wanting it and it will keep the Program at the top of web searches. If you are in a position to make this happen, please do so.

Best regards,

Steve Cohen, Pres. Lighthouse Uniform Company ‘Uniformly Different’
